Former colleague reveals why Mourinho will be fine without Faria

Baltemar Brito has insisted that Jose Mourinho will be fine without Rui Faria, revealing that the assistant manager didn’t make the Manchester United boss any better.

Some fans have expressed their concern that the Portuguese manager will be without one of his key staff members in what will be a defining season for him.

Faria has remained with Mourinho since the start their careers and for the first time they will separate in what could prove to be a costly mistake.

To make things perhaps a little worse, the former Chelsea boss has announced he won’t seek out another assistant manager and will instead just rejig his staff.

Brito worked with the pair for much of the beginning of their careers and believes while Rui will be missed, he isn’t irreplaceable.

According to Manchester Evening News, Brito said: “Of course Jose will feel the loss a lot although no one is irreplaceable. They worked together every day for 17 years, even going on holidays sometimes, and Rui is a fantastic human being.

“They weren’t just friends; they were brothers, family. When you have all of this, along with confidence in each other, it is obviously a lot to lose.

“Rui did not make Jose better or worse – he simply made things different – but life goes on. Jose will still be the coach that he has always been and Rui will be a great coach and will be very successful in his own right.”

There is hope that Michael Carrick can quickly rise through the ranks in the start of his new chapter as a backroom staff member to become Jose Mourinho’s new assistant.

The Red Devils boss has also admitted that it could happen though the Englishman will have to have his coaching badges in order to do so.

Rui Faria meanwhile has been already linked with the Arsenal job as well as a return to Portugal with Benfica said to be interested in handing him the manager’s position.
