Valencia makes a rallying cry for Man Utd next season

Manchester United star Antonio Valencia has called on his teammates to make things right next season and try to challenge for every trophy available.

The Ecuadorian has often captained his side this season in the absence of Michael Carrick who has suffered with a heart problem.

The Englishman recently recovered but has struggled to get into the starting XI ahead of Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic, meaning Valencia has still held onto the captain’s armband.

United will need the former Wigan man at his best as they take on West Brom in the Premier League later this afternoon.

Jose Mourinho will surely be looking for all three points as he hopes to keep up the pace and stake his claim on second place.

According to Goal, Antonio said to United Review: “I think it’s positive thoughts throughout when you look back on things. We’ve scored more goals, picked up more points, conceded fewer and I think we’ve played better.

“You want to take that forward into next season and try to put things right that maybe haven’t gone so well this season and improve upon results in games.

“We want to win even more games and not slip up in the type of the matches where we might have slipped up this season. All that considered, it’s looking good for next season and let’s hope we can be fighting for every trophy that’s available to us.”

Things do look like they’re setting up well for next season and it’ll look even better should the Red Devils hold onto second place as well as win the FA Cup.

It would conclude a decent season for Mourinho though there will be huge pressure on him to deliver the title in the next campaign.

Many Manchester United fans were disappointed to see their side allow fierce rivals and league leaders Manchester City to hold such a big points gap over their heads.

Next season should see Jose put together a better title challenge with their rumours of a defensive overhaul being planned in the summer.

United are said to have given their manager £200m to spend in the upcoming transfer window and there’s no doubt he’ll be looking to make some adjustments.
