Pochettino explains why Spurs will not have Wembley advantage against Man United

Mauricio Pochettino has insisted that his Tottenham Hotspur side will have no advantage against Manchester United by playing at Wembley – their temporary home – on Saturday for a place in the FA Cup final.

The North London side have spent the 2017/18 campaign at Wembley as they wait for their new stadium to be finished ahead of next season.

They made light work of Man United back in January when the two sides met, with Christian Eriksen and a Phil Jones own goal giving a dominant Spurs a 2-0 win.

But Pochettino has made it clear that no such home advantage will exist when the two sides meet on Saturday.

“Now it feels different because we will share facilities with Manchester United,” he said.

“During the season only we own the stadium and we feel like home. Now we are going to share with United. Of course it’s special, it’s a different competition and [I’m] sure that the atmosphere will be completely different to the Premier League.

“I don’t believe (it helps us] because Manchester United have the experience to play in Wembley too.

“It’s not an advantage for us, not a disadvantage for them. I think it will be a game that will be typical FA Cup at Wembley.”

United fans would have been wrestling with the inevitable fear of playing a Pochettino side away from Old Trafford – something which has never resulted in a United win during the post-Fergie era – throughout the week.

But it is worth remembering that this is indeed a cup semi-final: a time when past statistics, traditions, personnel, and indeed form itself ends up becoming irrelevant.

In the Wembley cauldron, with an even number of supporters from both sides and the whole footballing world watching, all that will matter is the moment itself.
