Manchester United great Paul Scholes claims that Romelu Lukaku has answered his critics in fine fashion throughout his first season at Old Trafford after joining for a British record transfer fee from Everton in the summer of 2017.
The Belgium international completed a £75m move to Manchester United from Everton in the 2017 summer transfer window.
He netted 10 times in his opening nine games in the colours of Manchester United to silence concerns about his ability to thrive at a top club.
However, Lukaku struggled over the festive period to prompt criticism of the Belgian striker, while his underwhelming record against their bitter rivals was highlighted.
But Lukaku scored in a 2-1 win against Chelsea FC at Old Trafford before he made an assist in a 2-1 victory over Liverpool FC last month.
The former Anderlecht forward netted in a 2-0 win against Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium on Wednesday night to score his eighth goal in his last 10 games.
Ex-Manchester United midfielder Scholes believes Lukaku’s ability can no longer be questioned following a strong showing in his first season at Old Trafford.
“I don’t think you can question him now,” Scholes told BT Sport.
“Twenty-seven goals is a great return for his first season. You’d take that from your centre-forward all day long.”
Manchester United will take on Tottenham Hotspur in the FA Cup semi-final at Wembley on Saturday afternoon.
