Paul Pogba has revealed that Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick has helped improve his game since returning to Old Trafford from Juventus in the summer of 2016.
Pogba went to the Serie A giants on a free transfer in 2012 and rapidly became one of the world’s most sought-after midfielders before Jose Mourinho re-signed him for £89m in his first transfer window in charge.
36-year-old Carrick, turning from player to coach at United at the end of the season, has been at the club for almost 12 years and has seemingly been offering the advice he once received when in the same position.
Speaking to Sky Sports ahead of United’s anticipated Premier League clash against Arsenal on Sunday, Pogba explained the benefits of training alongside a veteran like Carrick, stating: “He’s [Carrick] got the experience. He always talks to me since I arrived last year. Talks to me, helps me on my position.”
“It just came naturally in training when you see something that could be better,” he continued. “He told me about running without the ball can make the difference to win the game. I call them the Lampard runs. Outside giving the ball and then making the run, getting in the box. That helps alot.”
Michael Carrick may have played his last game in the famous Red shirt, but Paul Pogba is widely considered to be the future of the team’s spine and the advice he’s receiving now will help him surpass the heights that Carrick has hit over his long career.
