Jose Mourinho is set to drop Paul Pogba and Alexis Sanchez for Manchester United’s FA Cup semi-final meeting with Tottenham Hotspur this Saturday, according to reports.
Pogba was sloppy on the ball against West Bromwich Albion and taken off after 56 minutes, while Sanchez once again looked lost on the left hand side.
The boss once again did not hold back in the aftermath, hitting out at Pogba, along with other players, for taking too much time on the ball against the Baggies.
And according to the Telegraph‘s James Ducker, Mourinho will leave out the pair, alongside Ander Herrera and Juan Mata, at Wembley following their abject display on Sunday.
You get the sense that Mourinho, ever since that fallow patch in December, has become growingly distrustful of a number of players, and the display against West Brom would have only driven that home further.
Should the personnel listed in this report be accurate, that immediately means a midfield pivot of Scott McTominay and Nemanja Matic on Saturday, which hardly gives United a platform from which to break through Tottenham’s midfield and bring attacking players into the game.
Once again, it looks as if Mourinho’s growing scepticism towards key players and their capacity to deliver regularly will have an adverse impact on his side’s attacking shape in a crucial game.
