Manchester United target Toby Alderweireld fears he is being frozen out by Mauricio Pochettino amid disputes over a new contract, according to reports.
The Belgian, whose contract expires at the end of next season, has reached an impasse with his club after Spurs chiefs refused to countenance his demands for a deal that would see him earn £180,000-a-week.
He has only made two appearances since the turn of the year – both in the FA Cup – and was left out of the squad that travelled to Chelsea without an explanation from Pochettino.
And according to the Mirror‘s Darren Lewis, the defender, who has attracted interest from Man United, Barcelona and Chelsea, fears being frozen out for the rest of the season by his boss.
Alderweireld served as a vital part of the two best campaigns for Spurs in their Premier League history but looks set in the summer having fallen out with the club’s hierarchy.
His release clause drops to £25m next season and the North London side, with Davinson Sanchez and Jan Vertonghen as their first choice defensive partnership, will be looking to secure a considerably larger fee than that over the transfer window.
Jose Mourinho ought to see him as a far more realistic target than Barcelona’s Samuel Umtiti, who has recently voiced his desire to remain at the Nou Camp.
