Ed Woodward has been discussing the decision to once again tour the United States for Manchester United’s pre-season tour this summer.
Jose Mourinho was notably disappointed with his club’s stultified pre-season preparations during their trip to China in 2016, which saw one of their two games called off due to weather conditions.
Their trip the UCLA Campus in Los Angeles last year, on the other hand, was a remarkable success and played a role in the club’s strong start to the 2017/18 campaign.
And Woodward, following the official announcement of the club’s pre-season plans, noted that America serves as an ideal place for players to prepare for the upcoming campaign.
“The tour is a central part of the team’s preparation for a long and intense campaign and this is the second consecutive year that we will travel to the U.S,” he said.
“The training facilities are world-class and the games will be played in front of passionate crowds, making it an ideal environment for the players to gear up for the new season.
“The club, manager and team always receive a great welcome when visiting America, with our millions of U.S. fans always keen to get closer to Manchester United.”
Mourinho has always favoured travelling to the United States – and specifically California – over pre-season and you can understand why: the warm climate is ideal for early preparation, while facilities are always state of the art.
It also serves as one of the few places in the world where players can walk around in public without being mobbed by camera wielding supporters wherever they go.
They will take on Mexican side Club America in Arizona four days after the World Cup final alongside once again facing San Jose Earthquakes on July 22. Reports have also suggested that United could be in line to take on Liverpool at the 107,000 seater Michigan Stadium at some point in the tour.
