Manchester United representatives were present in Rome last week to watch midfield target Sergej Milinkovic-Savic in action for Lazio during a 4-1 defeat to Red Bull Salzburg, according to reports.
Jose Mourinho is on the hunt for midfield reinforcements over the summer and personally watched the Serbian in action against Austria back in October.
Lazio’s sporting director, Igli Tare, has stressed that Man United would need to splash out “well over” €90m to secure the midfielder’s services but also claimed that specific price had been set.
And according to the Mail‘s Simon Jones, scouts were once again present to monitor the progress of Milinkovic-Savic last Thursday.
Of all the names which have surfaced over the campaign Milinkovic-Savic, along with Shakhtar Donetsk’s Fred and Nice’s Jean Michael Seri, stands as one of the most repeated – and most understandable – options for United next term.
Mourinho’s men have often lacked the necessary drive from midfield to move them up the pitch quickly and effectively this season, with Paul Pogba often preferring to supply long passes over carrying the ball, while Ander Herrera and Scott McTominay, whilst solid, are not renowned at moving forward with the ball.
And Milinkovic-Savic, with his marauding, athletic style going forward, would go some way to addressing that on the right hand side of a midfield three.
