Romelu Lukaku has claimed that Jose Mourinho has warned the Manchester United stars that they must all fight for a spot in the starting XI.
The Belgian was in form once more against Swansea on Saturday, opening the scoring for his team to help them onto their 2-0 victory.
Lukaku was instrumental in the victory as he continues to go from strength to strength and he’s reiterated the need to conclude the season strongly.
The powerful striker will surely hope to join his international team for the World Cup in good confidence in order to perform on the biggest stage in football.
However, at least at the moment it doesn’t appear as though he’ll stop scoring anytime soon and he should be key to his country’s chances.
According to the Sport Review, Romelu said to BBC Sport: “Of course it is important to finish strongly. The manager told us we all have to fight for our place in the team.”
Romelu Lukaku doesn’t truly have any competitors for his place in the starting XI with Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s departure to the MLS.
The former Everton man has the trio of Alexis Sanchez, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial as back up just in case of injury but it’s unlikely any of them can truly steal his spot.
All three are mostly seen as left wingers by Jose Mourinho with the versatility of leading the line but not in a way that Lukaku does.
The Portuguese manager’s tendency to have powerful strikers lead the line for him is proof of that and neither of the aforementioned players fit that description.
Romelu’s attitude though will surely please his manager given how he hasn’t let complacency slip in and is continuously putting in good performances.
