Former Manchester United star Rio Ferdinand has claimed that Jesse Lingard is starting to become the club’s go-to player.
The academy product has been stealing the headlines of late and while he failed to score against Swansea on Saturday, he still managed to put in an impressive shift.
Lingard has proven to be rather clinical this season but missed a couple of opportunities to grab himself a goal in United’s 2-0 win.
Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez were the ones who found the net instead but it would be more important for the Englishman to be on the scoresheet next week against fierce rivals Manchester City.
Ferdinand though certainly believes that Jesse’s stature has grown recently and explains just why he’s becoming more important for the Red Devils.
Rio Ferdinand on Lingard: “The simplicity of his game can kill opponents. What sets Jesse apart is he can play one touch on the move, for an opposing midfielder, that’s a nightmare. Now you’re starting to see he’s becoming the go-to guy.” #mufc [BT] pic.twitter.com/xXdMjQFHNN

Jesse Lingard‘s intelligence and movement were never called into question by fans, rather it was his goalscoring that was his main criticism.
The 25 year old has managed to add goals to his game but wasn’t previously known to be an accurate finisher despite getting himself in good positions.
However, his added goal threat this season has seen him rise through the ranks and become an important player for Jose Mourinho and England.
Should he continue to work on his finishing then he can truly become the complete number ten attacker that Manchester United supporters and the Portuguese manager will surely love.
Blessed with pace and vision already, Lingard isn’t necessarily your typical attacking midfielder but his positive attributes are too good to ignore.
