Danny Drinkwater is reportedly considering a summer exit from Chelsea as he grows increasingly frustrated by his shortage of first-team opportunities under Antonio Conte.
The England international has been nothing more than a bit-part player for the Blues since his arrival from Leicester and, according to the Telegraph, he could seek pastures new in the summer.
Drinkwater faces immense competition for a place in Chelsea’s starting line-up in central midfield. N’Golo Kante is a mainstay for the Blues and it seems Cesc Fabregas is a preferrable option alongside the Frenchman. This has left Drinkwater and Tiemoue Bakayoko ruing their lack of game time.
Chelsea signed Drinkwater last summer for a fee claimed to be in the region of £35 million following some outstanding displays in Leicester’s midfield.
However, since his move from the King Power Stadium, Drinkwater has struggled to impress in a Chelsea shirt and has subsequently lost his place in the England national squad.
This will come as a concern for the midfielder, with the 2018 World Cup just around the corner.
