Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata has admitted that he should have rested his back earlier than he did after continuously suffering with the problem since Christmas, as reported by ESPN.
Morata made an instant impact at the club, netting seven goals in his first seven outings but has struggled for form in recent months, scoring just five times in his last 22 matches in all competitions.
He spent a lengthy spell on the sidelines, which started in January after he persisted to play on with the injury as Chelsea had no real cover the for the Spanish forward.
The club have since signed Olivier Giroud from Arsenal for £12 million, which has meant that Morata hasn’t had to have so much pressure on him with the minutes being shared with Giroud since his arrival.
Morata has spoken of how he regrets playing through the pain as he looks back on his spell on the sidelines.
Everything was good until I had the problems with my back. I played with a lot of pain and it probably would have been better if I’d stopped. But I wanted to play with my teammates, for the club and the fans. Now it’s in the past.
My first year could have been better, but there are still more games to go and we have a chance to win the FA Cup.
