Chelsea secured their second win on the bounce with a gritty and determined 2-1 win over Burnley at Turf Moor. The win takes Chelsea back to within five points of Tottenham, and a potential Champions League spot.
Chelsea dominated the first-half and thoroughly deserved their one-goal lead, as Victor Moses’ cross was knocked into his own net by Kevin Long after a mix up with England hopeful Nick Pope. Moses and Pedro were crucial to Chelsea’s dominance and, had Àlvaro Morata not been ruled offside on countless occasions, then Chelsea could’ve gained some breathing space. Instead, however, they went into the break just the one goal up.
The Blues, as they have been many times this season, were punished by their inability to put the game out of sight – with Morata, in particular, wasting a couple of clear-cut chances when being put in behind the Burnley defence, with Johann Berg Gudmundsson’s wayward long-range effort being fortuitously flicked into the net by Ashley Barnes to bring the Clarets level.
Much like last weekend against Southampton though, Chelsea responded to the set back competently, taking the game to Burnley from the restart and soon restoring their lead through Moses who picked up the ball in space inside the 18-yard box before firing low past Pope at the near post.
