Chelsea are reportedly ready to rival their Premier League rivals in the race to sign Sokratis Papastathopoulos from Borussia Dortmund this summer.
The Blues are cited by Italian reports as a potential destination for the Greek international, who has established himself as one of the best defenders in the Bundesliga in recent years.
Chelsea have struggled to shut teams out this season and it seems a new central defender is on their summer transfer window wish list, regardless of whether manager Antonio Conte stays or goes.
Sokratis is 29-years-old now, so it would be assumed that any potential acquisition of the defender would be with the view to utilise him as a short-term fix as Chelsea bid to push their way back into the Premier League’s elite bracket.
However, the Blues will not be alone in their interest. Manchester United have also been linked with Sokratis, along with Europa League quarter-finalists Arsenal.
