Manchester United’s Michael Carrick has claimed that there’s plenty more to come from his team and explained how they can win the title next season.
Manchester City have largely dominated the title race this season but Jose Mourinho’s men could still have a respectable end to their campaign by finishing second and winning the FA Cup.
United weren’t initially expected to win the Premier League but after a bright start to the campaign expectations quickly changed.
Mourinho’s players were blowing away their opposition with ease and keeping up with City until it all went wrong.
Top four was the initial target and the Red Devils achievements have looked minuscule in comparison to their rivals but Carrick explains how that can change next season.
According to Manchester Evening News, Michael said: “It’s never going to go your way all the time, but it’s how you fight back that counts and that’s what we’ve got to do. That’s the only way to get back on top.
“When you have a setback, you’ve got to come back stronger. You can’t feel sorry for yourself and drift away. If that’s the case, this isn’t the place for you.
“But time can go quickly. It’s been five years since the last title, from winning it five times in seven years before that.
“That was a special period. We lost one title on goal difference and the other by a single point, so we could have been sitting here with even more.
“Full credit to City, they’ve deserved to win the league this season. But we can only focus on ourselves and try to get better. There’s more to come from us.
“This year, points-wise, it’s not a disaster for us. We’re in second place, so we’re moving forward and we need to keep doing that.”
Unfortunately Michael Carrick will no longer be a part of the squad that will attempt to challenge for the Premier League title next season.
The Englishman is set to retire at the end of the current campaign but will remain at the club as a part of the coaching staff.
Jose Mourinho asked Carrick to stay on as a coach and the latter has already admitted it was a no brainer to work with the former.
The veteran midfielder explained that the Portuguese manager is a serial winner and one of the best in the world, claiming it was the perfect opportunity to learn directly from him.
Michael also discussed his future and revealed that he could potentially go into management one day as it’s a path that interests him.
