Young German attacking talent reveals he’d reject Liverpool to play for Manchester United in future

Timo Werner has outlined his intention to turn down a move to Liverpool in favour of signing for Manchester United if he’s presented with the option.

The young German talent revealed that Man United would be a more attractive option to him than the Reds’ bitter rivals. who they host on Saturday at Old Trafford in the 12:30 pm [GMT] kick-off.

Werner, now 22, has made his name quickly in the German Bundesliga and is expected to be his country’s first-choice striker at this summer’s FIFA World Cup in Russia despite his young age.

Having netted 37 goals in 65 appearances for RB Leipzig, Werner has shone since his move from Stuttgart, and it’s unsurprising that Germany boss Joachim Low will be willing to trust him at this year’s tournament.

“Playing in the Premier League is a dream for me,” Werner revealed to FourFourTwo.

“I would like to play for two or three clubs, and Manchester United are one of those clubs.”

However, Werner revealed that United rank higher than any other side in English football.

“But when I have to decide,” he continued, “I’m more Manchester United than Liverpool.”

“Manchester United and Liverpool were the teams I watched quite a lot in England. They were the two that I’m a little bit a fan of, because they have so much history. When Alex Ferguson was the coach, United won everything and were outstanding.”

While United may not be targeting Werner now or in future, it’s pleasing to hear one of Europe’s finest young attacking talents reveal a desire to play for the club.

Whether he joins or not is somewhat irrelevant, because it shows that despite four years of ‘transition’ since the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson in 2013, a period where United have not lifted the Premier League title or seriously competed in the UEFA Champions League, players are still keen to move to Old Trafford.

For all the arguments about Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp being a better coach to work with than Jose Mourinho and that they play nicer football, Werner is clearly focused on United and Mourinho ahead of Klopp and Liverpool.
