Pundit calls on Man Utd to start a women's football team

Former Arsenal star Ian Wright has called on Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United to start a women’s football team in order to catch up with the rest of modern football.

A host of top European clubs have already expanded their teams to include a women’s team in an effort to play a part in that side of the game.

Women’s football was often ignored at the start but has since made huge strides in growing their stature to compete with men’s football.

Not compete directly but to receive the same finances and attention that men’s football gets as well as attempt to match their quality.

Wright believes it’s bizarre how United haven’t yet started a women’s football team given how clubs such as Arsenal and Liverpool already have.

According to the Express, Ian said on Sky Sports: “I can’t understand how Man United, being Man United, haven’t got a women’s team. It’s important because it’s Manchester United.

“Is it that they can’t get a team together? No way. It’s happening and Manchester United are one of the biggest clubs in the world and there’s other teams that have got women’s football teams so why haven’t they?

“Maybe Man United might get a team going as well.”

Perhaps former Red Devils’ star Phil Neville can inspire them to invest in a women’s football team given how he was recently made England manager.

The former versatile player got the job under dubious circumstances given how he has had no previous management experience in either gender’s football.

However, Neville’s England team have performed admirably so far with a host of his players already complimenting his ability.

Manchester United’s executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward is known as a bit of a ‘money man’ given how he’s remarkably increased the club’s profits since being appointed.

Perhaps Woodward will only consider taking the issue up with the board if there is commercial money involved in a bid to take United even further ahead of the pack.
