Player Ratings: Incredible Rashford performance sinks Liverpool, Bailly is a madman

David de Gea 6 – Came out to collect crosses with growing confidence. Got a hand to Eric Bailly’s own goal but couldn’t keep it out.

Antonio Valencia 6 – Produced a solid captain’s performance, bringing energy and discipline in a way that set an example to his teammates, but will be disappointed in Sadio Mane getting space for Liverpool’s goal.

Chris Smalling 7 – A much improved all round performance compared to Selhurst Park. Always looked to be in control when the ball entered the box.

Eric Bailly 7 – The Ivorian rarely slips under the radar. Defended impeccably for 65 minutes, scored an inexplicable own goal, and then defended with even more aggression after that. A true madman performance.

Ashley Young 7 – Did a superb job keeping the Premier League’s top goalscorer largely quiet and moved the ball with greater efficiency than normal.

Nemanja Matic 7 – Another blockbuster defensive midfield performance from the Serbian, getting his foot to loose balls just in time and forcing Liverpool to go wide through virtue of his sheer discipline and strength in the middle.

Scott McTominay 7  – Enjoyed a truly superb first half, snapping at the ankles of white shirts and making crucial interceptions, and produced a grinding display in the second.

Juan Mata 6 – Played a crucial role in moving the ball quickly through the lines in the first half but should have put the game to bed when Alexis Sanchez found him in acres of space in the box. Didn’t produce the same control in the second period.

Alexis Sanchez 7 – This was a game that possibly laid out a blueprint for how to use the Chilean best at Old Trafford. Deployed in the centre with freedom to roam, Sanchez was a pivotal bubbling influence, driving play forward and making a series of pinpoint passes.

Marcus Rashford 7 – Jose Mourinho said last week that Rashford would receive chances and he couldn’t have produced a better respond, ruthlessly slamming home two goals and destabilising Liverpool’s entire defence in the first half.

Romeu Lukaku 7 – Another big performance in a big game from the Belgian, who bullied Dejan Lovren from the start and played a huge part in both goals through his sheer power in the air.
