Manchester United are reportedly willing to cut ties with Daley Blind as early as this upcoming summer transfer window.
The Dutchman was initially brought into the club during Louis Van Gaal‘s tenure and appears to have been unable to win over his new manager.
Jose Mourinho relied on Blind’s versatility but has also slowly realised he has better options in the positions his player is capable of featuring in.
The former Ajax star filled in mainly as a left-back or a centre-back despite his abilities in midfield and has been usurped by his teammates.
Luke Shaw and Ashley Young provide him with plenty of competition on the left while the likes of Marcos Rojo, Phil Jones, Chris Smalling, Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof all stock up the centre-back position well.
According to Sports Mole, The Mirror report that Daley is up for sale this summer and his contract extension was only triggered in order to prevent him from leaving for free.
Shaw’s reemergence as a real candidate has perhaps threatened the utility man’s future at the club more so than anyone else has.
Daley Blind initially played as a centre-back under Mourinho due to his ability on the ball but it appears the manager was unwilling to sacrifice his lack of pace or height.
He was then moved to the left of the defence but his lack of pace was still exploited by opposition wingers and his inability to cross didn’t help him either as Luke proved capable of both footballing aspects.
