This Man Utd star has been discussing his versatility and ambition

Manchester United star Ashley Young has been busy discussing his versatility and ambition to play for England in the World Cup.

The Englishman has continuously reinvented himself throughout his career and was always known as a bit of a utility man.

Capable of playing as a striker, winger, attacking midfielder and full-back, Young has almost mastered every position on the pitch.

Though his days as a striker and attacking midfielder were limited, he’s mainly enjoyed success on the wings and has successfully retrained himself into a full-back in a similar manner to Antonio Valencia.

Both players were traditionally wingers but adapting to the more defensive side of the game with little to no struggle and the former Aston Villa man believes it helps his career.

According to the Republik of Mancunia, Ashley said: “If I’m asked to play a certain position, I’ll do it 100 per cent. Not to fill in, to cement a place. I can play in six different positions where managers can trust me.

“It must give them food for thought knowing I can do a job in different positions. Maybe that versatility could help with England. The World Cup is coming up quicker than people realise.”

Ashley Young‘s ability to use both feet has also allowed him to play on either wing whether as a winger or a full-back.

While he has recently featured as a left-back more than anywhere else, the veteran has also given Valencia a rest on occasion and played as a right-back.

However, Young has recently seen his place in the starting XI come into question as Luke Shaw reemerges as a real candidate once more.

The youngster has had his fair share of problems ranging from fitness issues to attitude problems but has seemingly moved past it all.

Ashley will take comfort though that at the moment Jose Mourinho seems to trust him more than Shaw in crucial clashes, perhaps due to his experience.
