Manchester United are hopeful that Marcos Rojo will recover in time to face Liverpool on March 10 after returning to training this week, according to reports.
The defender missed the first three months of the campaign and returned in time to feature over the busy December period, but has only made three appearances since the turn of the year.
He picked up a knock ahead of Man United’s 2-0 win over Huddersfield Town in the FA Cup and missed clashes with Sevilla and Chelsea as a result.
But according to ESPN‘s Rob Dawson, Rojo has resumed training this week and will return in time to face Jurgen Klopp’s side at Old Trafford.
With Eric Bailly enjoying an important cameo against Chelsea last Sunday, Mourinho can finally deploy the Ivorian and Rojo together for the first time this season, and it comes just in time.
Nobody would want to see Chris Smalling attempt to track down the slippery brilliance of Mohamed Salah, nor would he pick up on Roberto Firmino’s clever movement in the final third. It would be a bloodbath.
Addressing the sheer pace brought to the table by Liverpool has been one of the biggest tasks for Premier League sides this season, and Mourinho will need to ensure that he can rely on a solid central bloc at the back as the basis for a disciplined, compact performance.
