Manchester United favourite Gary Neville has praised Jose Mourinho for showing faith in the club’s youth system after the recent win over Liverpool.
The Portuguese manager was perhaps unfairly labelled as being a coach who does not like to work with younger players or even attempts to develop them.
Most United fans were concerned with this label at the start of his reign but it’s fair to say he’s proven otherwise so far.
This has led to supporters defending Mourinho, claiming he never trusted youth at his previous clubs because he was never given the opportunity to and now that he’s at Old Trafford it’s expected of him so he’s risen to the occasion.
The Red Devils’ tradition of trusting their youngsters has been ever present and the former Chelsea manager should be praised for his willingness to continue the tradition.
G Neville: “McTominay, Rashford and Lingard all played today. Not many managers would have given McTominay a chance today after Monday night. Mourinho is showing faith in the youth team. There was entertainment today and excitement in the way United went forward.” #mufc [Sky]

While Scott McTominay, Marcus Rashford and Jesse Lingard all played in the match vs the Reds, it would be fair to say only two of them performed admirably.
The recently declared Scotsman and the 20 year old were hugely influential in the 2-1 defeat of Jurgen Klopp’s men.
Both players started the crucial clash with McTominay putting in a mature performance and Rashford singlehandedly taking the opposition apart with two goals in the first twenty minutes of the match.
Lingard came on afterwards as a sub and did put in a decent shift but he did come on at a time Manchester United were trying to hold onto the result.
