Man United on red alert as 25yo Bayern star hints towards exit: report

Manchester United are closely monitoring the situation of Bayern Munich defender David Alaba ahead of the summer after the Austrian admitted he was open to a move away in the summer, according to reports.

The full-back, who can also play in central midfield, joined Bayern as a ten year old and has claimed six Bundesliga titles along with winning the Champions League in 2013.

He looks set to claim title number seven in a matter of weeks but recently stated in an interview that he was considering a move away from the Allianz Arena.

“I am aware that this decision will come to me,” he said. “I still feel very comfortable here, but I can also imagine taking a different path, taking the next step or looking for a new challenge.”

“It’s an exit that I’m leaving open for the moment. I’m going to focus on the goals I’ve set for this season, I have goals and I’m going to fight for it.”

And according to the Mirror’s Alex Smith, Man United are among the clubs interested in securing his signature in the summer.

Alaba has been a regular for Bayern since the 2009/10 season, making his first team debut aged just 17, and every manager during that time – from Louis van Gaal to Pep Guardiola – has trusted him and used his intelligence on the pitch to great effect.

And at the age of 25 he is somewhat amazingly entering his peak years, which is something you often don’t say about someone with 12 major honours to their name already.

Mourinho’s main two areas of concern ahead of the summer are midfield and full-back, and Alaba has performed in both of those roles at the highest level for a number of years. Surely a bid in the summer is worth a try for a player who is, at the very least, thinking about heading for the exit door.
