International roundup: Jesse Lingard excellent, tough night for Paul Pogba

A memorable night for the 25-year-old. Picked up good positions down the centre alongside the lively Raheem Sterling, moving through the lines with purpose. Manipulated the ball nicely and claimed his first England goal with a precise low strike from outside the box.

Marcus Rashford

Produced a dynamic display at No.9, stretching the Netherlands back three with some penetrating arcing runs to provide space for those behind him. Didn’t have many touches in the box but should have been handed penalty when goalkeeper Jeroen Zoet brought him down in the second half.

Ashley Young

Came on at left-wing back and never looked troubled by a disjointed Netherlands front line, defending with control during the last 20 minutes. Hardly broke a sweat.

Scott McTominay

A night McTominay and his family will ever forget. The 21-year-old was handed his first cap for his country at Hampden Park and, while Scotland performed poorly in a 1-0 loss to Costa Rica, he can be proud of how he handled the ball and worked hard in the middle.

Paul Pogba

The Frenchman’s difficult patch continued as Didier Deschamps left him out of his starting XI, opting for the pairing of N’Golo Kante and Blaise Matuidi instead. Came on with 20 minutes left but the hosts had long since handed the initiative to Colombia, leaving him with hardly any chances to surge forward an effect the game.

David de Gea

Couldn’t get a hand to Thomas Muller’s superb strike into the top corner but made a truly remarkable diving save from an arguably even better strike from Julian Draxler in the second period, leaping to his left to push a ferocious curling shot past the post.

Nemanja Matic

Delivered a typically controlled display on the ball against Morocco and provided a firm physical presence, but couldn’t prevent his side from a 2-1 defeat, with the North African side far more fluid in possession.
