It’s the fixture which every North London football fan waits for as Arsenal and Tottenham play out the first derby of 2018.
The Gunners triumphed with ease in a 2-0 win earlier in the season. Shkodran Mustafi and Alexis Sanchez got the goals that day and now, Arsene Wenger has given his team news ahead of Saturday’s match.
“Basically, we should have a similar squad to what we had last week against Everton,” Wenger said in his pre-match press conference. “Maybe Danny Welbeck will be back.
“We had a few problems with Petr Cech, who we are not sure about at the moment because he’s not trained. I don’t know if he will be available.
“Nacho Monreal looks alright again. It should be a similar squad.
When asked further about the situation regarding Cech, Wenger seemed confident in the abilities of his backup goalkeeper, David Ospina.
“I will not take any risk if he’s not 100 per cent fit, for sure, because I have full confidence in David Ospina.
“I have no problem with [selecting Ospina]. David Ospina or Petr Cech: I will make that decision tomorrow.”
So, it seems that Nacho Monreal will return but that Petr Cech could well miss this clash. The Czech stopper hasn’t been on the best form of late but his experience would surely be missed in a crucial match such as this one. Let’s hope he recovers in time.
