Speaking for the first time since his proposed move to Chelsea collapsed, Roma striker Edin Dzeko has insisted that he is at ‘home’ in Italy.
In an interview with Klix, the experienced forward discussed the events over the last couple of weeks and made it clear that his full focus is now on helping Roma to achieve a successful end to the season.
It is true that negotiations have been conducted and that is all I can say about this topic. There was a lot of speculation, falsehoods and even a few ridiculous stories, and I’m really flattered by Chelsea’s interest, a club that I respect and admire very much.
Dzeko was expected to join Chelsea along with his teammate Emerson Palmieri, but only the latter secured a move to Stamford Bridge in the closing stages of the transfer window.
So many stories have been told about my departure from Rome over the past few weeks, but I am still here. After all, I am happy to stay because Rome has become my home and an indelible part of my life.
From the very first day I was accepted in Rome in an unreal way and I can never and will not forget it, and I have had some of the happiest moments in my life in this city.
The Bosnia and Herzegovina striker was reported to be keen on joining Chelsea, but his financial demands along with the length of his desired contract at the club proved to be somewhat implausible.
Chelsea did secure themselves a striker after giving up in their pursuit of Dzeko, and tied up a deal for Arsenal forward Olivier Giroud on deadline day.
