Marouane Fellaini could be sidelined for up to two months after he suffered another knee injury during Manchester United’s 2-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur, according to reports.
The Belgian missed the entirety of Man United’s October and December fixtures with knee ligament problems which first arose on international duty, and has made just start since September.
He was introduced midway through the second half at Wembley but was forced off just eight minutes later, with Jose Mourinho confirming at full-time that his ligament problems have resurfaced.
And according to ESPN‘s Mark Ogden, the 30-year-old could be sidelined from between six to eight weeks amid fears he may have done damage to his medial ligament.
Fellaini confirmed to reporters that the problem is in the same knee that has troubled him throughout the 2017/18 campaign, adding to a period of unparalleled frustration for the Belgian after what was a superb start to the season.
This issue has continued to resurface and club medical staff, having opted for conservative treatment up until now, may sanction an operation in an attempt to finally deal with the knock once and for all.
But you can’t help but wonder whether Fellaini’s prolonged absence from the starting XI, set to extend until as late as April, will indeed have a terminal impact on his time at Old Trafford as his contract draws closer to expiring.
