Pundit claims this former Man Utd man didn't get a fair chance at the club

Pundit Danny Murphy has claimed former Manchester United man Henrikh Mkhitaryan was given a fair chance to shine at the club.

The Armenian international was part of the straight swap deal with Arsenal that saw Alexis Sanchez come to Old Trafford in perhaps the transfer of the January window.

Fans were hugely excited by the prospect of seeing the Chilean in United’s red that they weren’t too upset about losing Mkhitaryan.

Jose Mourinho clearly took a calculated risk given that everyone knows Mkhitaryan is talented but it just never seemed to work out for him at the club.

With Henrikh grabbing three assists on his debut for the Gunners, Murphy believed he wasn’t given a real opportunity to prove his worth.

According to the Daily Star, Danny said on Match of the Day: “They [Aubameyang and Mkhitaryan] linked up really nicely today. Mkhitaryan especially was the star of the show in respect of those two.

“His assists were there and we know he’s got that quality. Mkhitaryan loves getting in that No10 role and his first touch is always forwards.

“Surprisingly at Man Utd he didn’t get the chances that I thought he should have done. He finds the perfect through ball for Aubameyang and that’s a really, really clever finish for his goal.”

Henrikh Mkhitaryan moved to Manchester United from Borussia Dortmund with huge expectations after his consistently impressive performances in the Bundesliga.

The versatile attacker came to Old Trafford on the back of a season that saw him go into double figures for goals and assists.

United were desperately crying out for the kind of talent he would bring to the club but after a dismal start to his career, most fans were willing to give him a season’s worth of time to adjust.

It seemed to prove to be the correct choice given how Mkhitaryan raced to the top of the assist charts at the start of his second season in the Premier League.

However, his form quickly dipped, so much so that he was deemed dispensable by Mourinho as the Portuguese manager decided to gamble and bring in Sanchez instead.
