Pundit claims Man Utd have the second best squad in the league

Former Manchester United man Owen Hargreaves has claimed the club he once represented currently have the second best squad in the Premier League.

Jose Mourinho’s men include the likes of Paul Pogba, David de Gea, Alexis Sanchez, Juan Mata, Romelu Lukaku, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial among others.

The mix between young potential and experienced players also leaves the Portuguese with a generally well-balanced squad.

However, many fans believe there still is some dead wood that needs to be cleared out in the summer transfer window, particularly in defence.

Hargreaves though is of the opinion that United have the second best squad, reflective of their league position which is currently second.

According to Goal, Owen said to Radio 5 Live: “I think Manchester United have the second best squad in the Premier League, just in terms of individual talent.

“City have got the best one. Chelsea don’t have a stronger squad than United. They’ve got the best goalkeeper [David de Gea] in the country have United.

“They’ve got Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford – two of the most dynamic young players in Europe. Nemanja Matic and Paul Pogba are brilliant players in their position. That is an incredibly gifted group of players.”

Phil Jones, Chris Smalling and Matteo Darmian are all being touted to be replaced by better players as supporters call on Mourinho to revamp the defence.

Some sections have even called for Ashley Young to be moved on and Antonio Valencia to no longer be the club’s first choice option on the right side of defence.

Their argument is that a club of the Red Devils’ stature should never have former wingers as their first choice options in the full-back positions.

Jones and Smalling meanwhile have finally frustrated fans so much that many wish to see them leave the club at the first opportunity.

Marcos Rojo, Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly are considered to be capable players with two of them expected to form a strong partnership in order to solidify the defence.
