Alexis Sanchez has added to Manchester United’s attack with his constant demanding to be on the ball, defender Antonio Valencia has claimed.
The Chilean forward signed a four-and-a-half year deal at the club a couple of weeks ago in the January transfer window’s biggest saga. Armenian attacking midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan went the other way to join Arsenal and become their new number 7 in a straight player-swap deal.
Sanchez netted his first goal for Man United on Saturday, tapping home a rebound from a penalty that he saw saved against Huddersfield Town in a 2-0 win. He was named Man of the Match on his debut, against Yeovil Town in an FA Cup Fourth Round drubbing of the League Two side.
“Of course because of the way Alexis plays, always wanting the ball, he always wants to show what he can do and that is important for us,” Valencia told reporters, having been asked if Sanchez had changed the dynamic of United’s attack.
“We knew Alexis,” Valencia continued. “For five years now, he has been playing at the highest level in the Premier League and that is why he is here today. He showed he is a great player and we hope he continues like this.”
United have brought in a player with guaranteed quality in Sanchez, a world-class footballer who will give them an instant boost for the rest of the season.
Hopefully, Sanchez can kick on from his first goal and start helping out Romelu Lukaku in terms of the team’s goalscoring with regularity.
