Jose Mourinho has hailed the attitude of Alexis Sanchez in the Chilean’s home debut for Manchester United.
Sanchez scored the rebound from his own penalty to give Man United a two-goal cushion against Huddersfield Town which they saw out until the end of the game.
Having enjoyed a pretty solid debut against Yeovil Town in a 4-0 FA Cup thrashing against the League Two side, in which Sanchez assisted once, the 29-year-old was less than impressive in midweek during United’s woeful 2-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley.
Playing at Old Trafford for the first time in a United shirt, Sanchez scored and looked good despite the constant attempts from the Terriers to foul him, adjudged to have done so seven times by the referee.
“It was nice for Alexis Sanchez to win a match, the first at home,” Mourinho said after the game on Saturday afternoon.
“Nice for him to play well and show the desire and happiness in playing football. That is most important.”
On Sanchez’s first goal for the club, Mourinho said, “it was not the goal of his dreams, but it is a goal.”
The Portuguese will be pleased his big January signing has already had an impact. It was the biggest move of the window, with Henrikh Mkhitaryan going the other way to join Arsenal.
