Jose Mourinho: Alexis Sanchez has already shown this quality at Man United

Jose Mourinho has hailed Alexis Sanchez’s humbleness after his first few weeks working with the Chilean.

Sanchez signed for Manchester United in the January transfer window’s biggest saga, moving to Old Trafford in a straight player-swap deal as Henrikh Mkhitaryan went the other way to sign for Arsenal.

The 29-year-old made his debut against Yeovil Town in a 4-0 FA Cup Fourth Round thrashing, grabbing an assist, was less than impressive against Tottenham Hotspur as he and his teammates performed woefully at Wembley before bouncing back with his first goal for the club against Huddersfield Town at the weekend.

Sanchez showed his excellent attitude against the Terriers, who hacked away at him all game only to see him consistently get back up and continue to threaten them.

Mourinho has praised the attitude of his new signing, as well as his quality, on a number of occasions already and did so again.

“Alexis is a fantastic player and is not a Prima Donna,” the 54-year-old said.

“He is a humble guy who has not forget where he started. I think when he was playing [in] Chile he had difficult places to play. He is quite used to [pressure] I think.”

Sanchez’s attitude is one of his key attributes. His determination and drive, formed during his childhood in Chile, have shown themselves already at United and will hopefully rub off onto the rest of the side

Having one player, who also has great quality, who constantly pushes themselves and doesn’t accept weaknesses is fantastic. United have to ensure they harness Sanchez’s winning mentality and make it work for the team rather than letting his frustrations hinder the side as they sometimes did at Arsenal.

But the idea that players shouldn’t be criticised on the pitch by their teammates is ridiculous, that’s what United need and what they have often had with captains like Roy Keane.
