"It's A Massive Blow" - Wenger Gives His Thoughts On The Lacazette Injury

Arsene Wenger has had his say on the injury which will keep Alexandre Lacazette out of the Arsenal team for the next five weeks.

It was a story which seemingly came out of nowhere when, on Tuesday evening, the club confirmed that Alexandre Lacazette has picked up an injury.

The Frenchman has undergone surgery on his knee which will keep him out of action for the next six weeks, a bitter blow to Arsenal’s hopes this season.

The Gunners, of course, have Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to play in the Premier League but the Gabon international cannot play in the Europa League as he is cup-tied.

“It’s a massive blow but we have to find a solution,” Wenger said. “Nobody could predict that but football has to do with unpredictable things.

“Lacazette is down but I think recently he’s felt something in his knee. Maybe, that’s an explanation why he hasn’t been scoring as many goals as he’s used to.”

Wenger then took some time to explain how this surprising and disappointing story developed.

“He got a surprising swell of the knee after the game against Tottenham. He needed very quick surgery and will be out for the next four-five weeks.”

It’s a hugely disappointing story as far as Arsenal are concerned. Alexandre Lacazette hasn’t been on the best form of his career but he certainly would’ve been needed in the Europa League. Let’s hope the rest of the Arsenal squad can rise to the occasion.
