Paul Pogba would be enjoying more success and confidence at Manchester City under Pep Guardiola than he is at Manchester United, Ian Wright has claimed.
The Arsenal legend suggested Pogba’s current situation would not be occurring across the city at Man United’s local title rivals. The Frenchman has been the centre of attention recently after a reported dispute with manager Jose Mourinho over his best position in the side and a couple of poor performances.
Pogba was woeful, alongside the rest of the side, against both Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United in 2-0 and 1-0 defeats away from home respectively. As the starman, who cost £89m in July 2016 as he returned from Serie A side Juventus, the attention is always on him.
He was ill for United’s 2-0 win against Huddersfield Town in the FA Cup Fifth Round which sees them through to face Brighton & Hove Albion, but was benched for the Reds’ Round of 16 tie against Sevilla in the UEFA Champions League.
“If Pogba’s playing at City I’d put anything on it that he would not be in the same frame of mind that he’s in right now,” Wright told the BBC.
“I can understand why United fans saying he’s not played well, but we’re talking about a top, top draw player that needs managing.”
Pogba is clearly not at his best. However, he remains one of United’s best performers of the season, with some fantastic moments and some breathtakingly good displays.
He has far greater quality than the rest of United’s outfield players and if Mourinho gets the best out of him he will be one of the world’s finest midfielders. He can’t afford to lose Pogba through mismanagement.
