Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has hailed the maturity of Andreas Christensen and has dubbed the player as a future captain for the club.
The Blues boss, as quoted by Goal, addressed the media today ahead of his side’s game against Manchester United at the weekend and he highlighted Christensen’s importance to the side.
Christensen made a costly error against Barcelona in the recent Champions League clash, but Conte has urged the player’s critics to acknowledge his success in the side up to now.
During your career you can make a lot of mistakes. If I had to speak about my mistakes from my career we would be here all day. Christensen is having a fantastic season and showing great maturity.
For me, apart from his mistake, his performance [against Barcelona] was wonderful. I trust Christensen.
After having spent two seasons on loan at Borussia Monchengladbach in the Bundesliga, the young defender has established himself as a key player for the Blues. He has enjoyed an involved role in the side this season and is living up to his potential.
I think this player is a present player for Chelsea and can be here for 10, 12 years. I think he can be captain.
Conte has a wealth of options at his disposal in central defence but Christensen has often been called upon this season, with it being thought that the youngster is ahead of David Luiz in the pecking order.
Chelsea fans and Conte alike will hope that Christensen can turn in yet another cultured display when they lock horns with Manchester United.
