Chelsea are trying to build for the future by developing their younger players, according to head coach Antonio Conte.
As reported by FourFourTwo, Conte says that the club are putting an extra emphasis on developing their talent rather than spending huge sums of money on players.
We took a lot of young players. With Christensen, we are trying to develop the young players of the academy. I think we are doing a fantastic job. We are trying to build something important with work – not with words or money.
The Premier League champions have notoriously struggled to bridge the gap between academy football and the first-team squad.
The Blues boast one of the most successful academies in European football, dominating the FA Cup Youth Cup and winning the UEFA Youth League in recent years.
Conte says that he is working closely with younger players, despite appearing disinterested in the club’s academy players.
Ethan Ampadu joined the club from Exeter City in the summer and has been on the fringes of the Chelsea first-team squad this season.
Meanwhile, Callum Hudson-Odoi also made his Premier League debut against Bournemouth, coming off the bench during the 3-0 defeat.
Chelsea’s constant changing in the dugout has seen managers and coaches join the club who are not willing to risk giving youngsters a chance.
