Chelsea head coach Antonio Conte is facing further backlash after Ross Barkley was ruled out of Monday night’s game against Watford.
The Telegraph report that the January addition has been sidelined with a hamstring injury that was sustained in training, the eighth Chelsea player to do so this season.
Barkley is being examined by the Chelsea medical staff over the weekend to judge whether or not the injury is connected the former Everton star’s previous knocks.
Conte has been subjected to criticism following the Blues’ intense training schedule, despite the added fixture congestion this season.
Andreas Christensen, Alvaro Morata, Victor Moses, N’Golo Kante, Gary Cahill, Cesc Fabregas and Willian have all suffered hamstring injuries of varying severity this season.
Unlike the title-winning season, Chelsea have Champions League football to contend with this time around. The Blues also reached the semi-final of the Carabao Cup and remain in the FA Cup.
The list of injuries only adds more pressure on the Italian, who has bemoaned the lack of transfers from the club in both the summer and January window.
