Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has insisted that Tiemoue Bakayoko does not deserve the recent criticism he has been subjected to.
Quoted by West London Sport, the Blues boss defended his summer signing and explained that it will take him time to fully adjust to the pace of the Premier League.
For sure he is a young player. Don’t forget last season he won the title in France with Monaco and played Champions League. To arrive in this league and to adapt very quickly is not simple. My task is to try to help him – but not just him – and to improve all the players and understand the situation.
Bakayoko joined Chelsea in the summer for a fee thought to be in the region of £40m. This followed an exceptional season for Monaco, in which he helped his side win the Ligue 1 title.
However, he has struggled to replicate this kind of form at Chelsea and has failed to convince with his displays so far.
Bakayoko was given a red card before half-time in Chelsea’s recent 4-1 defeat against Watford, only compounding his recent misery as he was jeered off by sections of the club’s travelling supporters.
Conte is evidently maintaining patience with Bakayoko but will be well aware that the Frenchman must step up if he is to come out of his debut season in English football with any credit.
