Arsenal have been given some hope in their pursuit of Thomas Lemar after the winger reportedly turned down a new contract at Monaco (via The Mirror).
The window may be closed but that doesn’t mean the transfer rumours will go away anytime soon.
Deals don’t just get discussed and set up behind the scenes during January and the summer as clubs continue to keep tabs on their top targets.
One of those targets for Arsenal is undoubtedly Thomas Lemar. The Monaco winger is one of the hottest prospects in European football with clubs like FC Barcelona, Liverpool and Atletico Madrid reportedly keen on the 22-year-old.
Lemar was the subject of an incredible £90 million bid from Arsenal back on deadline day in the summer and while that deal didn’t materialise, there’s a feeling that Arsenal could return.
Now, reports suggest that the Frenchman has rejected the offer of a new contract at AS Monaco which will only fuel rumours that he is set to leave the Ligue 1 side.
The signings of Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang have somewhat lessened the need for Thomas Lemar at Arsenal. However, should he become available at a reduced price then surely, that is something which Arsene Wenger would go for.
