Chelsea boss Antonio Conte is ‘eager’ to take over as Italy manager, according to the Italian Football Federation new commissioner Roberto Fabbricini.
After winning the Premier League title last season, it’s tough to envisage Conte wanting to leave Stamford Bridge so soon but with reports suggesting that he’s been unhappy with the club’s transfer strategies, he could be about to walk away.
Speaking to reporters at a press conference, when discussing the possible options to take over the Italian national side, Fabbricini said:
[Roberto] Mancini was in Rome but we didn’t contact him. Conte seems eager to wear Azzurro again. [Carlo] Ancelotti opens and closes the door and [Claudio] Ranieri isn’t out either.
Italy sacked Gian Piero Ventura earlier this yeah as his side became the first Italian national side to fail to qualify for a World Cup. Conte, who took the Italian side to the quarter final stages of of Euro 2016, seems keen on a return to international management but time will tell if he decides to make a switch, or if he sticks things out at Chelsea.
