Oliver Giroud revealed, that one of the main reasons why he moved away from Arsenal was Antonio Conte.
The out-of-favour forward man finally got his move on deadline day, which was part of a group of transfers.
The French International was the subject of a £18 million move which seen Michy Batshuayi move to Borussia Dortmund with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang going the other way to Arsenal.
Giroud rejected offers from other teams including from the Bundesliga and revealed that it was the Chelsea boss who determined his move to the Champions.
“The most important thing was talking with the coach, Antonio Conte,” Giroud told Chelsea’s official website. “I felt like he really wanted me and he really wanted to work with me.
“I wanted to sign for Chelsea and nowhere else. I really wanted to play more. I wanted to stay in the Premier League, and Chelsea for me is perfect because I can even stay in London.
“But the first reason is the sporting challenge. That has always been my first priority.
“Everything is here for me to be happy.”
With Arsenal not being involved with the Champions League this campaign, it gives Giroud the chance to play against one of the world’s best, FC Barcelona.
He explained how important the competition is and how much he is looking forward to the challenge against Barcelona. Giroud told the Chelsea club website:
The Champions League is massive for a football player,”
There is nothing above it when you’re playing for a club. There will be two nice games against Barcelona.
The former Gunner believes that the team has to be at their best if they are to get anything out of the game.
“We know their qualities and I think everybody will need to be 100 per cent to go through. It will be very exciting and I’m looking forward to it.”
