Talented 21yo left-back set to join Hearts on loan: report

Manchester United youngster Demetri Mitchell looks set to sign for Scottish side Hearts for the rest of the 2017/18 campaign.

The 21-year-old was included in a series of match-day squads towards the end of last season and impressed on his full senior debut against Crystal Palace.

He has continued to impress for the Under-23s this season on the left hand side, starting all of their Premier League 2 games so far.

And Hearts manager Craig Levein has noted that Mitchell’s presence in the side will add some much needed thrust going forward.

“He’s an exciting young talent at Manchester United,” he said. “They think very highly of him and feel it’s time for him to go out and play on loan.”

“He was a winger who’s been converted back to full back and we are looking for some balance in the team.

“We’ve spoken regularly about trying to find a balance and I’m sure that Demetri will provide us with that.

“With bringing somebody in so young there’s obviously difficulties in that as well because he has to hit the ground running and it’s the first time he’s played serious professional football. But he’s a confident young lad and I’m sure he’ll be a valuable addition to the squad.”

This is no more than what Mitchell deserves after another year of steady progression, crowned by that composed, indefatigable display against Palace during which he shut down the lively threat of Wilfried Zaha.

There is a tangible level of detail to the youngster’s game as well. He covers the basics extremely well and it gives his game a feeling of roundness, combined, of course, by a devastating amount of pace going forward.

Supporters will be keen to see how he gets on at the fifth placed Scottish Premiership club this term.
