Arsenal are reportedly hopeful that the signings of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Henrikh Mkhitaryan are enough to convince Mesut Ozil to stay at the club (via The Evening Standard).
In all the talk of Alexis Sanchez’s impending move to Manchester United and the players coming into Arsenal, people seem to have forgotten about Mesut Ozil.
The German playmaker’s contract still expires in the summer and he still hasn’t agreed on a new deal.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Henrikh Mkhitaryan may replace Alexis Sanchez but the Gunners would still have to go and sign another big-name player in the summer should Mesut Ozil leave on a free.
However, reports suggest that Arsenal are hopeful that those two signings would be enough for Ozil to agree on a new contract.
Ozil has reportedly asked Arsenal for a £300,000/week deal which would see him become the highest-paid player at the club.
Mesut Ozil’s importance to this team was no more evident than on Saturday. The German put in a wonderful performance but just hasn’t had enough quality players to play with since his arrival from Real Madrid in 2013. Let’s hope that changes in the coming months.
