Jose Mourinho has refused to blame anyone for Alexis Sanchez missing a drugs test.
All Premier League players must make their whereabouts known to officials from the club constantly, and Sanchez failed to do so on the day of his move from Arsenal to Manchester United, unsurprisingly.
Due to the random nature of the tests, it’s an easy mistake to make on such a day, where no one knew what was going to happen and when.
Asked about Arsenal’s response to the missed test, Mourinho said: “I think Arsenal were very honest in the way they approached the situation.”
“We all know we must tell the whereabouts, our players where they are 24 hours a day.
“Nobody knew where he was going to be, it was just a period of his transfer.
“So I think it’s easily understandable, no one’s mistake and just a consequence of the moment.”
Meanwhile, Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger, who has generally been pretty magnanimous on the Sanchez saga given he’s lost his best player to Man United for the second time in five years, Robin van Persie being the other, responded in similar fashion to Mourinho.
The Frenchman said it was down to Arsenal, but that it was simply an unfortunate day for a drugs test to be requested.
“On the administration side, it would still be our responsibility,” because “on the day, he had not moved [to United from Arsenal].
“The intention of Alexis was not to hide,” Wenger said. “It’s a special event for him to miss a drugs test because he was certainly busy somewhere else, it’s just a bad day for him to be tested.”
