Antonio Conte has revealed that he is happy for striker Michy Batshuayi to remain at Chelsea with a potential deal for former Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko breaking down.
Dzeko looked likely to join Conte’s team this month to bolster Chelsea’s strike force and give Morata more competition as the number one target man at the club. But the deal looks set to collapse, reports the Independent.
Batshuayi was given an opportunity to impress the Chelsea boss against Newcastle in their FA Cup clash, and his manager’s faith paid off after the Belgian netted twice in Chelsea’s 3-0 victory.
It is still up in the air whether Batshuayi will stay at Chelsea or look to move on in his career, but the Chelsea boss insists it is up to the player whether he remains a Chelsea player.
We have to see what happens in the market. It doesn’t mean Michy has to go on loan. We have a lot of competitions. Three strikers is the minimum. I know there is a World Cup and every player wants to play to push the coach of their national team.
But this is another situation. In this case, if the club decides to add another player, I don’t know if Michy wants to stay or go on loan, it will be the player’s decision not my decision.
I’m ready to continue to work with these players. I’m very happy. But I don’t know what happens with the transfer market.
With the Dzeko move off the cards, it will be interesting to see who Chelsea look to next with Olivier Giroud being the latest rumoured target.
