Manchester United will not allow Matteo Darmian to leave the club this month despite strong interest from a multitude of Italian clubs.
Darmian is an infrequently used squad player at Man United currently, having joined in 2015 under Louis van Gaal.
After signing from Torino, the Italian international showed huge promise at first but has never secured himself a regular first-team spot and never impressed in the same manner he has done for Italy in a different formation.
This season has been the worst of his career in terms of first-team chances, playing just 12 times in all competitions.
Juventus are interested in bringing Darmian back to Turin. The Express state that the Old Lady are keen to sign Darmian on loan, though with an option to buy clause included.
Meanwhile, Rete Sport (via the Express), claim that Darmian is “not for sale”. United manager Jose Mourinho is unwilling to weaken his squad even in the very slightest as the Reds look to compete on three fronts.
A 4-0 win against Yeovil Town on Friday night secured them passage into the FA Cup Fifth Round, while ties against Sevilla in the UEFA Champions League knockout stages await Mourinho’s men. All the while, the Portuguese is focusing on catching up cross-city title rivals Manchester City, who are 12 points ahead as things stand.
Mourinho wants to maintain his squad depth, given that Darmian can fill in at left-back, right-back and, if desperate, in central defence.
However, he is third or fourth choice in every position he can play in currently, most notably right-back where Luke Shaw and Ashley Young are dominating.
