Manchester United full-back Luke Shaw has been given a lease of life with the club deciding, after some encouraging form, to extend his contract.
The young England international has come in for some harsh criticism during his time at Old Trafford but it seems as though he’s finally putting it all behind him.
Mauricio Pochettino, Louis Van Gaal and Jose Mourinho have all questioned the player’s lifestyle and attitude to the game with the United boss seemingly fed up with him at one point.
Former winger Ashley Young was even given a run in the first team ahead of the talented defender with serious concerns of whether Shaw will ever make it at the club.
Since then however, the former Southampton man has improved and shown a hunger and desire that Jose was looking from him all along.
According to Manchester Evening News, Luke’s contract has been extended by the club for an additional year with staff members said to have seen an improvement in his attitude and application.
The same report claims that with Luke Shaw tied up by the club until 2019, Jose Mourinho has now decided to cool down his interest in other left-backs.
Danny Rose and Kieran Tierney have both been linked with Manchester United and for a while it appeared as though either move was imminent.
Although Mourinho is willing to give Shaw a chance, it doesn’t mean his place in the squad is safe, with some claiming that the manager is only offering him the rest of the season to prove his worth.
