It appears as though Manchester United legend Sir Alex Ferguson is still attempting to help his former club get an advantage in any way possible and Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt is interested.
Bolt has previously admitted his interest in switching careers and having retired after the previous Olympics, he’s now aiming to become a footballer.
German giants Borussia Dortmund are currently trialing the record breaker and it seems as though he’s more serious than most anticipated him to be.
At the age of 31, he would start to be considered a veteran of the sport but it’s unlikely that any club would doubt his fitness levels.
Whether it all becomes a reality is yet to be seen but at the very least, he would certainly help whatever side he joins in merchandise sales.
According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Usain said: “I’ll see what I can do. If they [Borussia Dortmund] tell me I’m good enough and only need to train, I’ll do my best. I’m a bit nervous, it’s not usual for me but we’re talking about football.
“I’ll need time to adapt but after a few played games I’ll be used to it, it’s been like that for athleticism. I’ll give my best and train hard.
“I’ve asked Alex Ferguson to put in a good word for me, if I’m in form he’ll do it. I think I can make it, I know football as I already played.
“I want to play in the best league and don’t want to settle to be a medium player. I dream about going on Old Trafford’s pitch, maybe playing on a side.”
Manchester United are currently lacking talent in a few positions in which Usain Bolt could prove useful should a move come to fruition.
Jose Mourinho’s side are short in terms of natural wingers at the club and perhaps the sprinter could see himself bombing up and down the flanks much like his idols.
A lot of attributes are needed to be a successful wide man but an important one is obviously speed, of which Usain is blessed with plenty.
Playing him up top as a striker is another alternative given how the modern game relies on pacy forwards more and more often of late.
Either way, it’s tough to imagine Bolt at Old Trafford with fans more likely to see him in the stands rather than on the pitch.
