Manchester United are reportedly interested in Borussia Dortmund defender Marc Bartra despite completing their only expected signing of the window in Alexis Sanchez.
The Gunners and the Red Devils opted for a straight swap with the Chilean coming to Old Trafford and Henrikh Mkhitaryan going the opposite direction.
Reports previously claimed that Jose Mourinho isn’t keen on doing business in the difficult January transfer window but jumped at the opportunity of signing Sanchez as it was too good to be true.
Similar accounts seem to suggest that the Portuguese manager is will to do the same for former Barcelona centre-back Bartra.
The Spaniard hasn’t had the best of time of late at the German club and it appears as though he could be on the way out this winter.
According to Metro, Marca report that Real Betis are interested in signing Marc and with Borussia seemingly open to offers, United have also turned their attention to him this month.
With Manchester United stocked up with centre-backs in the form of Phil Jones, Eric Bailly, Chris Smalling, Marcos Rojo, Victor Lindelof and Daley Blind if need be, it seems as though this transfer is unlikely.
However, given the club’s notorious fitness issues in their defence, the move could be more plausible than it currently appears.
Most of the aforementioned defenders have struggled with injuries at one point or the other this season and it could be that Mourinho feels the need for additional cover.
The departure of youngster Axel Tuanzebe to Aston Villa on loan may also nudge Jose in the direction of a possible budget buy in Marc Bartra.
